Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup long-grain rice, cooked
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or coconut aminos for a gluten-free option)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (or hoisin sauce for a vegetarian substitute)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for a lighter version)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  • Prepare the beef: In a bowl, mix the beef slices with soy sauce, black pepper, and sesame oil. Let it marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  • Cook the rice: If not already cooked, prepare the rice according to package instructions.
  • Sauté the aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the onions and garlic, sautéing until fragrant.
  • Cook the beef: Add the marinated beef and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Stir-fry the peppers: In the same pan, add the sliced bell peppers. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
  • Make the sauce: Pour in the beef broth and oyster sauce, then stir in the cornstarch slurry. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
  • Combine everything: Return the cooked beef to the pan and mix well with the sauce and peppers. Let it cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Serve: Plate the beef and peppers over a bed of cooked rice. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
