Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Orange and yellow food coloring
- Black edible marker or gel for details
- Royal icing or frosting (optional for decoration)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. - Color the Dough:
Divide the dough into two portions. Add orange food coloring to one portion and yellow to the other. Mix well until the colors are even. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. - Shape the Cookies:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness. Use Lorax-themed cookie cutters (or circular cutters for a basic shape) to cut out cookies. - Bake:
Place the shaped cookies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small gap between them. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. - Decorate:
Use royal icing or frosting to create the Lorax’s iconic mustache and details. Use a black edible marker or gel for facial features. Let the icing set completely before serving or storing.
