Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground turkey sausage (or pork sausage as a substitute)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups turkey broth (or chicken broth for a lighter flavor)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, crumble the ground turkey sausage and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
- Add butter to the same skillet and melt it over medium heat. Once melted, sprinkle in the flour, whisking constantly to create a roux. Continue whisking for about 2 minutes, or until the mixture becomes golden and fragrant.
- Slowly pour in the turkey broth while whisking to avoid lumps. Once the broth is fully incorporated, add the milk and continue to whisk until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasonings as needed.
- Return the cooked sausage to the skillet, stirring it into the gravy until fully combined. Let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- If desired, add fresh thyme for an extra layer of flavor, and cook for another minute.
- Serve this savory sausage turkey fat gravy over mashed potatoes, biscuits, or your favorite comfort foods!
