For the Cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Red and blue gel food coloring
For the Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream
- Red, blue, and black gel food coloring
For Decoration:
- Black fondant or black icing for web design
- White fondant for Spiderman’s ey
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
- Color and Bake:
- Divide the batter in half. Color one half red and the other blue.
- Pour the batters into the prepared pans, swirling slightly for a fun pattern.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
- Make the Buttercream Frosting:
- Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in vanilla and cream until smooth.
- Divide into three bowls: color one red, one blue, and leave one white.
- Assemble and Decorate:
- Place one cake layer on a stand, spread with white frosting, then top with the second layer.
- Cover the cake with red frosting and use blue for accents.
- Pipe black icing in a web pattern and shape white fondant into Spiderman’s eyes.
- Serve and Enjoy!
